Abstract

The present paper attempts to investigate a psychoanalytical study on Bashar Ibn Bord, a sightless and great poet of the Abbasid dynasty.   This study employs psychoanalytical theories of Adler, Rank, and Freud in order to find out the poet's motives in creating his works. This paper first considers the social environment that has shaped the poet's personality; moreover, Ibn Bord's neurotic personality is studied according to Rank's. Then, his inferiority complex is discussed according to Adler's and finally, the poet's personality disorder, anti- socialism probably being the source of many of his attacks is taken into account. Ibn Bord's defense mechanism to cover his deficiencies such as sightlessness is examined from Freud's perspectives.
