Abstract

Psychological criticism of the text is a new approach in literary criticism that examines the psychological aspects of literary works based on valid psychological theories. One of the prominent theories in this field is the theory of the pyramid of basic needs of Abraham Maslow, a humanistic psychologist, whose distinctive feature is the step-by-step provision of human needs to achieve self-actualization. Ali Badr, an Iraqi writer, wrote the novel “Don't leave me running after wolves, my dear " focusing on the social, cultural and political situation of Iraqi political intellectuals who fled and immigrated to Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia, and in the meantime, the mental actions of fictional characters as well. It portrays with a special narrative skill. The present research investigates the desires, wishes and psychological needs of the hero of the novel in a descriptive-analytical way and by using Maslow's opinions about basic human needs. The findings of the research show that according to the elementary classes of Maslow's pyramid, the novel in the beginning seasons reflects biological needs, security and emotional relationships. The issue of self-realization and social acceptance, corresponding to the fourth layer of Maslow's pyramid, is the most frequent in the processing of the main character of the novel. Also, the first person of "Laterkazni's novel After the Wolves" has type B motivation, and despite the damage caused by immigration and colonialism, it is moving towards self-actualization by relying on superneeds such as truth-seeking, honesty, and ethics.
