Abstract
Conceptual metaphor is one of the new linguistic tools in linguistics and it is a linguistic technique based on the relationship between language and cognition that creates many abstract concepts. The book the metaphors we live by revolutionized the science of cognitive linguistics and linguistic research. and The conceptual metaphor technique plays an important role in linguistic studies because it is a mental process before a linguistic process. Based on this technique, writers and poets can better illustrate abstract concepts As we have seen, Faliha Hassan has used a conceptual metaphor as a linguistic technique in her book (yā ʾummī). Because the poet in this book is about human and social concepts and has used metaphors to deepen the meanings, and express the concepts of war, separation, feelings and emotions, disaster, soul, time and love. This point caught our attention and we studied the structure of conceptual metaphors in the book (yā ʾummī) based on a descriptive-analytical approach We came to the conclusion that the poet has used conceptual metaphors in three types: structural, ontological and directional and has used a variety of methods; and expresses his thoughts and especially his feelings through various methods of conceptual metaphor. Relying on innovation and creating new metaphors, the poet expresses his ideas and especially his feelings, and paints a clear picture of what makes him sad or happy. Influenced by Faliha Hassan's gender and gentle spirit, we saw that the poet relied on the elements of nature to express his bittersweet feelings.
